Rattlesnake Mountain viewed from Badger Mountain

Rattlesnake Mountain viewed from Badger Mountain

Wade suggested we climb Badger Mountain…”it’s an easy hike, not steep at all”, he says. Uh…just like it’s not that cold out right? I’m learning the definition of things like “steep” and “cold” vary greatly between New Mexicans and Idahoans. Although where I come from, they’d laugh if you called these little 3,500 foot hills mountains, they can be a pretty steep grade on foot. And the wind…wow…bracing. The desert can be so cold! Standing on top of Badger Mountain, he points to Rattlesnake and says, “we can climb it next.” Yeah…maybe not. I think this is about as close as I want to get to a place named Rattlesnake.

Big Springs, Island Park, Idaho, the same place I took yesterdays trout.

Big Springs, Island Park, Idaho. Producing over 120 million gallons of water each day, Big Springs creates the headwaters of the Henrys Fork of the Snake River which includes the Upper and Lower Mesa Falls, which I’ll get to eventually. But for now, I’ll start with a shot from the Springs. The river here is so clear, that it looks like it is about a foot deep, but is probably closer to 10 feet deep. The trout get huge….this one was about 2 feet long. I have tons of shots of them that are crystal clear, but I really liked this one the best. The way the sunlight hit the water turned the stones on the river bottom to jewels and almost camouflaged the trout…I like the abstract feel.

Near Raton, New Mexico. I’m not even going to try post from the trip all in order. Too many shots. So they’ll come in whatever order strikes my fancy each day. Yesterday was a shot from Wade’s home turf….today one from mine.
